What to visit in Lagos?
Ponta da Piedade – Ponta de Piedade is a geographical accident near the city of Lagos, in the Algarve region of Portugal. It consists of a cape surrounded by several rock formations of the cliff type, up to about 20 m high, being one of the most touristic points of tourist interest in the region. Praia

Dona Ana – Praia de Dona Ana is located south of Lagos and is situated within the limestone cliffs of the small peninsula of Ponta da Piedade one of the main tourist areas in Lagos due to its great beauty, being considered as an Ex Libris of the municipality.

Meia Praia – Meia Praia has an extensive sandy beach that extends for about 5 km between the Marina and the Ria de Alvor, and the eastern half is also called Praia de São Roque.
Located in the vicinity of the Railway Station, this beach has accessibility and support for citizens with reduced mobility, as well as other support infrastructures that include the rental of equipment for water sports and a windsurfing school. Praia do Camilo

Praia do Camilo - has a small sandy beach that is accessed by a staircase with about 200 steps. Before starting the descent enjoy the scenery that is stunning.
Very close and with access from the same road, is the Ponta da Piedade, an impressive rock formation, with jagged shapes and caves excavated by the sea. This is one of the ex-libris of the region, which can be admired in its fullness on a boat ride, going through the interior of the caves and the small deserted beaches nestled between the rocks.

Porto de Mós Beach – Where a small slope leads to an extensive and quiet beach of fine sand, one of the surfing beaches of the Algarve, with waves and strong winds coming from the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to bathing and surfing, visitors can go kayaking, follow the hiking trails on the beach and at the top of the cliffs and frequent the restaurants by the beach. Praia da Batata

The cozy Praia da Batata is ideal for those who do not like to feel isolated. With great support infrastructures and surrounded by various leisure equipment, including the Lagos Sailing Club, this beach is the stage for regattas and volleyball and beach handball championships during the summer.
The fascinating rock formations that decorate it give access, between caves, to the beaches of Estudantes and Pinhão, small shells of sand between colorful cliffs and transparent and tranquil waters. Zoological Park of Lagos

Zoological Park of Lagos, is an educational and fun space, located between the localities of Barão de São João and Bensafrim, in the municipality of Lagos. Cultural Center of Lagos

The Cultural Center of Lagos is a cultural facility, where shows, exhibitions, orchestra concerts, plays, among others, are held.

Church of Santa Maria – In 1498 the Church of Mercy was built, to which was later added the hospital of the same house. It underwent restorations and expansions in the centuries. XVI and XVII, eventually being instituted parish church, dedicated to St. Mary, when the earthquake of 1755 destroyed the old parish temple.
Building of neoclassical architecture composed of a single nave with three collateral chapels and sacristy adjoined to the left side façade. With the front facing the Praça do Infante, it presents a symmetrical composition, having as central elements superimposed, the entrance door, the balcony window and a niche for image. The symmetry is reinforced by the two side towers, with bell towers. The interior is enriched with altarpieces from the second half of the 18th century. Dr. José Formosinho

Municipal Museum – Founded in 1930 by its patron, José Formosinho, this museum equipment quickly developed thanks to the combined efforts of the archaeological excavations organized by itself and the constant donations, making it a multidisciplinary museum with valuable and unique collections. His estate includes archaeology, sacred art, History of Lagos, ethnography of the Algarve, painting, numismatics, mineralogy and overseas ethnography. Castle of the Governors

The Castle of the Governors, also known as Castle of Lagos and probable Palace of the Infante D. Henrique, is a property built in the second half of the fifteenth century, which local authors refer to as having Arab origin.
The Castle is part of the so-called Medieval City Fence, whose construction began in the fourteenth century and lasted until the end of the following century.

Old Slave Market – One of the possible locations of the first slave market in fourteenth-century Europe. In 1444 the first slaves brought from Africa arrived in Lagos, and their commercialization began.
Knowing that the first slave market, brought by the caravels, was held in Rossio da Trindade, at the door of the village, this slave market takes on special significance for its symbolic character, rooted in popular tradition.

Church of São Sebastião – Classified as a National Monument since 1924, it is the religious building of greatest visual impact in the whole city. It is located on the site of the previous Hermitage of N. Sra. da Conceição, built in 1325 and which in the fifteenth century was already the Parish Headquarters. From 1463 the Hermitage was expanded under the patronage of the Bishop of the Algarve D. João de Mello, being transformed into a Church in 1490, when it changed its patron, becoming dedicated to São Sebastião, in the belief that this saint would help combat the outbreaks of cholera that often plagued this region. It has an axial portal of Renaissance style and a side door referenced as being one of the first signs of the Renaissance in the Algarve, having this been the main entrance of the previous hermitage.

Ponta da Bandeira Fort – Outside the old walled city is the Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, commonly known as Forte da Ponta da Bandeira and Forte do Pau da Bandeira. Built in the late seventeenth century, it functioned as a defensive fortress of Lagos.
The entrance is made by a drawbridge over a moat. Being one of the last defensive points of Lagos to be built, it is one of the best and best preserved specimens.
This fortification has in its interior a chapel with invocation to Santa Bárbara and a set of tiles of the late eighteenth century. restored in the 60s constitutes an authentic ex-libris of the maritime fortifications of the old War Square in Lagos.

LAC Laboratory of Creative Activities – Prison Civil Architecture of the 20th Century. Comarcã chain resulting from the guidelines contained in the standard project of the Arch. Cottinelli Telmo, and carried out under the Prison Construction Plan of 1941.
Prison for preventive inmates and sentenced to short-term sentences, from the county corresponding to the county and neighboring counties. It borders to the east with the old Convent of Our Lady of Loreto, in whose primitive fence it is inscribed.
In 2000 it was the target of adaptation works for installation and operation of the cultural association LAC – Laboratory of Creative Activities. Pro Putting Garden

Municipal Market of Avenida de Lagos - Building built in 1924, shares with the Living Science Center a magnificent panorama over the water plane of the fishing dock, the avenue and the bay of Lagos.
Inside, the restoration carried out in 2004, integrated a panel of tiles by the artist Xana and another panel evocative of the poet Sofia de Mello Breyner Andresen.
