Administratively, it is currently part of the parish of Bordeira, in the municipality of Aljezur; Having been the headquarters of a parish until the 19th century. It has a museum, the Museum of the Sea and the Land of Carrapateira. This locality is well known and frequented by surfers and water sports lovers in order to go to Praia do Amado.
There is a route of the Rota Vicentina to discover and contemplate the unique nature of the region.
It is worth taking time on the beach of Bordeira to appreciate how the sea carved the sand in harmonious shapes that are changing with the seasons. This beach, unique and full of nooks, resulted from the interaction between the sediments coming from Monchique, the deposits left by the sea, the insistent work of the wind and the vagaries of the tides and currents. Carrapateira delights the summerers, surfers, hikers, fishermen, perceveiros, biologists ... In the dunes, the vegetation is lush: thyme, yellow perpetuals, rosemary, rosemary, camarinhas, sand sands, lemon, esteva...
The cliff-squeego begins to take on new forms, as the rock begins to be limestone from here to the south. Limestone dissolves easily in rainwater, which is slightly acidic. Thus, the action of seawater, eroding the cliff underneath, combined with the dissolution of the top, caused by rain and running water, gives rise to holes, caves, arches and columns of rock. Materials that were found in the limestone boin, but which are insoluble, such as red clays, form red deposits that contrast with the whiteness of limestone rock.
